Spring 1975 to the Present ...
===========================================
The dream of "Fantasy Realm" began a very long time ago, in 1975.
We'd started a "garage band" - a first band for most of us. Every single one of us was just beginning to learn to play music. Typical of teenagers of ANY "generation" I suppose, we were all thinking up these "surreal scenarios" all of the time. We couldn't even settle upon a name.
I think that the idea of "The Jesse Caine Band" actually first emanated from thinking about Joe Walsh's old band, The James Gang. But it is getting to be SO LONG AGO that I'm really not certain. Anyhow, we used to laugh that there was no one actually named "Jesse Caine" in the band. I don't remember who came up with the name. It may have been me - or any one of the other guys. I know I did use it to write under, and I think that Joe and Les might have, too.
I still have the
old piano from that time - which we'd painted it on - out in my garage
- STILL, after all these years ...
One of the concepts
we had come up with was to take a voyage on one of those old wooden ships
somewhere - and to live totally in that time
period - the clothing, everything - except
even though it is on a tall ship, you would have electricity and could
play your music out on the deck under the stars every night ...
Rock and roll pirates
or something like that ...
I know that I came
up with the actual "Fantasy Realm"
idea - unless you want to say that Lewis Carrol's "Alice In Wonderland,"
Bram Stoker's "Dracula," "The Wizard Of Oz," or any of another million
writings take in the same concept. Basically, that was just what it meant
- a reality composed of fantasy - fantasy and reality, one in the same
- a realm of fantasy ...
whatever ...
So ...
we've been
trying to consolidate some of the material of that period
- and have been
re-recording -
in order to finally
- after 2 and a half decades
- complete this album.
